FAQs

Everything you’ve ever wondered about Graphic Recording (and then some!)

What is graphic recording?

Graphic recording is live visual note-taking. While a speaker or group shares ideas, we listen closely and translate what we hear into hand-drawn visuals—key words, symbols, and images—either digitally on a tablet or traditionally with markers and paper. It’s a creative way to make conversations stick, literally and figuratively.

What kinds of events or sessions is this good for?

Graphic recording works beautifully at:

  • Conferences and keynotes

  • Strategy and planning sessions

  • Retreats and offsites

  • Panel discussions

  • Workshops and trainings

  • Visioning or branding meetings

  • Webinars and virtual events

If ideas are flying around the room, we're there to catch and visualize them.

Do you work onsite or virtually?

Both! We’re based in Southern California (San Diego/Los Angeles), so we can attend in person or join remotely. For virtual events, we graphic record live on Zoom, Teams, or whatever platform you’re using.

What’s the value of having a graphic recording at my event?

So glad you asked. Visuals help people remember, understand, and connect to content. Plus, it creates a “wow” moment—attendees love seeing their words come to life! Afterward, you’ll have custom visual assets you can reuse in emails, reports, decks, or social media.

Do you need any special setup or tech?

Nothing fancy! For digital recording, we just need a good Wi-Fi connection, a screen if you’d like to project our work live, and access to your meeting link or room. For in-person graphic recording, we bring our own materials (paper, markers, easels), or can work with your setup.

Can we keep the artwork afterward?

Absolutely! You’ll receive high-resolution digital files after the event (and photos if it’s a physical poster). These are yours to keep, share, print, frame—whatever works for your team.

How do we book you?

Easy! Head over to our Contact page or send us a quick message. We’ll set up a discovery call to learn about your event and recommend a graphic recording plan that fits.

What if people don’t get what graphic recording is at first?

That’s normal! Most people have never seen it before. But once they do, they’re hooked. We can give a quick intro at your event or quietly work in the background—either way, it clicks quickly once they see it happening.

Where should the graphic recorder be placed in a meeting room?

Ideally somewhere visible—but not distracting. For traditional recording, a side wall or corner works well. For digital, we can sit with attendees or off to the side while our screen is projected (or not—totally up to you!).

Is the graphic recorder a distraction to the speaker?

Not at all. We work quietly and intentionally so the focus stays on the speaker. Most presenters tell us it adds to their session—seeing their points visualized in real time is energizing.

Can you graphic record a multi-person panel?

Definitely. We’re skilled at capturing themes and voices from multiple speakers and weaving them into one visual story. It helps make sense of layered conversations.

How can I repurpose my graphic recording images?

So many ways! You can:

  • Share them on social media

  • Include them in post-event recaps

  • Turn them into PDFs or infographics

  • Use them in internal reports or proposals

  • Print them as posters or handouts

They become evergreen content that extends the life of your event.

What is graphic facilitation and why do we need it?

Graphic facilitation is a more hands-on version of graphic recording. We don’t just draw—we co-create and guide the group toward clarity, strategy, or consensus using visuals. It’s ideal for retreats, workshops, or deep dives where collaboration is key.

What are the benefits of graphic recording a meeting?

  • It increases attention and retention

  • It makes abstract ideas concrete

  • It helps surface insights and themes

  • It encourages inclusivity—people feel heard

  • It results in a visual summary everyone can align with

Basically, it’s the secret sauce to better communication.

How do you make meetings more productive?

We listen, distill, and reflect what’s said in real time—helping teams see where they’re going. Plus, visuals create alignment faster than a 50-slide PowerPoint ever could.

What is the science of graphic recording?

It’s rooted in dual coding theory, which says people remember more when they process information both verbally and visually. Studies show that visuals help increase learning, retention, and engagement. We combine words + images = brain power.

Are you drawing everything people say?

Not word-for-word—we filter and synthesize in real time to capture the essence of what’s being said. Think of it as meaningful distillation, not transcription.

Can you also help with workshop design or facilitation?

Yes! We love helping teams shape the structure of a session—whether that’s designing a visual agenda, guiding group exercises, or co-creating templates. Just let us know what kind of support you need.

What’s the difference between graphic recording and graphic facilitation?

  • Graphic recording = We listen and draw, capturing ideas in real time.

  • Graphic facilitation = We help lead the session, using visuals to guide conversations and outcomes.

Both are powerful. One is observational, the other participatory. We offer both depending on your goals.
